Dear Friend,

Subject: New donations matched up to $10,000

I write to you with exciting news about the Coastal Watershed Council’s recent efforts, and a request that you consider a donation to support our work as the principal organization responsible for preserving and protecting watersheds on California’s Central Coast. With your support we can continue to test the water quality in local creeks and rivers, inspire youth to build their science skills and mobilize land owners to take positive steps to protect water quality.

berry-falls_smI’m sure you appreciate the fact that watersheds are critical and that their health directly impacts our quality of life, public health, recreation, fish and wildlife habitat, and local tourism economy. CWC utilizes its scientific expertise to design and implement water quality monitoring programs for creeks, streams and storm drains— providing local leaders and the public with essential data about watershed health.

Engaged local residents are the single most important resource to protect watersheds. Your gift will help CWC achieve its goal of mobilizing residents to take personal responsibility for water quality through watershed stewardship— the true long-term solution to water pollution. For new donations, the Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County will match your gift dollar for dollar, doubling your impact up to $10,000.

Some compelling reasons to consider a donation to CWC at this time include:

  • Our mission is unique— no other organization focuses on watershed protection throughout the Central Coast as CWC does
  • Hundreds of water quality monitoring volunteers practice hands-on science at hundreds of sites each year, learning about water pollution and its sources, impacts— and local solutions
  • We teach hundreds of students each year, leading field trips and classroom lessons on watershed ecology
  • Recent additions to the organization’s staff and Board of Directors have brought renewed focus and energy to CWC
  • A new communications strategy is guiding CWC’s efforts to reach more people in creative ways to foster environmental stewardship by more local residents
  • Our reports inform local leaders, homeowners and youth about pressing watershed issues that affect the quality of life unique to this region.

I am hoping you will consider a donation at this time to support CWC’s unique work and take advantage of the matching grant.

Please use our safe and secure Google Checkout at the right to make your donation right away. Or, if you prefer to mail us your donation, please make checks payable to: Coastal Watershed Council, 345 Lake Avenue, Suite F, Santa Cruz, CA 95062. CWC is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization and all donations are tax-deductible: IRS Tax ID#68-0368798.

I’d also welcome the opportunity to share more information about CWC and answer any questions you have about the organization’s goals. Please try me any time at (831) 464-9200 or gpepping@coastalws.org if you’d like to discuss CWC’s work.
We’re making great progress, and we need your support to continue to make a difference for the region. Thank you very much for considering this request.

Sincerely,

Greg Pepping
